I’ll give you a quick overview of Emission Testing & Emission Repairs in Marietta, GA.
Air pollution is a serious public health and environmental issue in the metro Atlanta area. Stationary sources of pollution from industry and commercial operations continue to face more stringent regulations. However, a significant amount of pollution is produced from mobile sources including gasoline-powered cars and light-duty trucks.
Today, annual emissions testing in the Atlanta Metro area is required.
If your vehicle is a 1987-2008 model year gasoline-powered car or light-duty truck (8,500 pounds gross vehicle weight rating or less) registered in Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding or Rockdale County.
The three most recent model year vehicles are exempt from emission testing each year. For registration in 2011, this includes all 2009 and newer model year vehicles.
Additionally, vehicles that are 25 model years or older are exempt from emission testing. This includes 1986 or older model year vehicles.
One of the best ways to ensure you pass is by keeping your vehicle properly maintained by following the factory-recommended
maintenance schedule. We can help.
There is no better way to help reduce vehicle emissions then to keep your car in good shape. Maintaining your car properly tuned up results in less emissions. Emissions testing will help pinpoint the problems in your car and its engine. It is wise to have your car checked for any problems and repairs first before you have it tested.
NAPA’s Premier Service Center is a Georgia Certified Emissions Testing facility and we our ASE Certified technicians are fully qualified to repair your vehicle’s emission control systems if you don’t pass. We have a 98% or better success rate at getting vehicles to pass upon the first retest!
First, don’t panic. You can take the test again for free after you have your repairs completed.
Well-maintained vehicles usually pass the first time unless there’s an component failure or manufacturer’s defect. Standards have been set to take into consideration the age of your vehicle, as well as the emission control components available at the time your vehicle was manufactured.
If your car does not pass, it must be repaired and retested. Keep in mind that inspectors have no control over test results on properly performed inspections. Inspectors have no way of knowing why your vehicle failed based on test results alone.
You will receive one free retest if you return to the original inspection station within 30 calendar days of your initial inspection. (30 days includes the date and time of your initial inspection). Note: Before a retest can be performed, you must provide the failed Georgia Vehicle Emission Inspection Report (VIR) and a completed Emission Repair Form, which should be filled out by your repair technician.
After your vehicle fails the initial test, the first step is to receive a comprehensive diagnostic analysis, which is required to identify what is wrong with your emission control system or your engine before a repair recommendation can be made. (Your emission test is
not a diagnostic analysis.)
You can expect to be charged for the diagnostic analysis. However, the fee will apply toward your Repair Waiver requirements, if needed.
