Daniel asks…
Does anyone else think high auto insurance rates, high auto repair costs is making car ownership miserable?
Just to legally drive a car and keep it running is killing my budget!

The cost of convenience is always high. With your own car, you can go to wherever you want, whenever you want, stay as long as you want and come home whenever you want.
With public transportation, you must be more flexible and be able to travel on THEIR schedule.
Competition helps to keep some of the prices in check. If I were a baker by trade, and if I could get $5.00 for a loaf of bread, I would charge $5,00 for that loaf of bread even though it may cost me only $0.75 to make it. Competition keeps me from doing that. But if I can get away with it, you can be sure other bakers will start charging $5.00 for a loaf of bread. Think it can’t happen? Look at the airline industry. All it took was one airline to start charging for extras. They all followed suit when the saw the one airline getting away with the extra charges and making BIG money on something that really costs them almost nothing.
So insurance companies, repair shops, parts stores and others charge as a minimum, what it costs them. But you can be sure they will charge as much as they think they can get away with.
It’s called Free Market or Free Enterprise.

Michael asks…
Is it possible to get Car-Repair-Insurance on a vehicle with 250,000 miles?
Been looking for auto-repair insurance for my used car, and they all seem to top out at 200,000 miles. Is this normal or am I just not looking in the right places? Note: This is NOT normal liability/collision insurance. I am talking about repair insurance.

admin answers:
You can’t really buy repair insurance on any car. All you can do is buy an “insurance policy”. Just ask the almost 1,000,000 people who bought a policy from USFidelis for as much as $4,000 and now have a piece of toilet paper. The bankruptcy really didn’t change things for most of their customers anyway because they refused to pay for most of the repairs they promised. There problem was always due to neglect or abuse by the customer and so it wasn’t covered by the “bumper to bumper” policy.
USFidelis was the largest of these extended warranty companies but there are hundreds of others who for the most part are nothing but scams.

Joseph asks…
How much is insurance for an auto repair facility?
I know theirs a lot of factors that come into play, like location, property, liability, size, and fleet, ect, but if anyone could give me a quote and what would typically have in their policy.
Thanks

Garage liability, in most parts of the country, which has $100,000/$300,000 limits, one bay, one man shop, NO dealer/repair tags, and $10,000 of garage keepers legal liability on a direct excess basis, would probably run you around $3,000 a year.
This type of policy is AUDITABLE. So be sure to compare the rates, as well as the premium.
Also, most insurance companies won’t write this type of risk. So you’re not going to have very many choices, if ANY choices.

Paul asks…
Auto collision repair–insurance and estimate questions???!!?
I got into a small accident whereas I was rearended by a truck. I drive an 07 honda civic i’ve owned less than a yr. His front bumper had a small dent, and my rear only minor scuffs/scratches. Estimator appraised cost to fix as $571. My deductible is $500. Is this worth it for some small scratches? Should I wait for his insurance check and fix this myself? Just want some ideas.

admin answers:
From my experience, every time I didn’t get the insurance involved things got ugly… FAST.
So my advice… Call your insurance let them deal with it. I may be wrong but if you were not at fault you shouldn’t have to pay a deductible.
Good Luck

Thomas asks…
Does the state of Florida offer auto repair insurance?
We have a 2003 Saturn Vue that needs nothing short of a 4,000 dollar transmission job. We’re nervous about investing that much more into the car but would feel a lot better about it if we could find this “repair insurance” I’ve been hearing about. I guess you pay a flat fee every month and your vehicle repairs are taken care of depending on your degree of coverage. Does anyone know of a list of which states that offer this miracle? Or how to find these companies? Do they even exist or was this all just a dream?

admin answers:
No, there’s no such thing as repair insurance. You MIGHT be talking about an “extended warranty”, which you can get pretty easily – but it has a whole bunch of exclusions, and a deductible.
Any Saturn dealer can talk to you about an after market extended warranty.
