it has a diagnostics box. how do i get the codes without an OBD tool? i know its possible on this car.

No, that year had OBD2 which needs a scanner to read the codes.
If you do not want to go to a dealer or other shop, some auto stores (pep Boys, Murries) have testes and can read the code for you.

Car diagnostics/tuner tool.. Laptop ? GBA ?
I saw a bunch of websites that sell certain cables to connect your OBD to your laptop using cables and sofware, this allowing you to diagnose your engine…
I also saw a GBA used as a Pressure/Speed/Etc.. Guage.
What would this cost ?
I have a laptop and a gba [that i never use]
I would prefer to use the GBA and mount it as a cool looking screen that will display a bunch of things…
This is more for ‘coolness’ factor than actual use…
Can someone find me a cheap way to do this ?

$200 is gonna be the normal cost for something like that… If it just for looks on some automatic daily driver, don’t do this.
But its a cool looking thing to do to your hobby car for the weekends, do it.

anyone familular withthe innova 3130 obd scan tools. or actron scan tools?
i have a 98 chevy truck and need help with diagnostics. i want to do live data scanning to see whats really going on with the engine because i have had to replace all o2 sensors and still get a reading telling me o2 bank2 sensor1/2 lean mixture,random misfire.when i pulled out the plugs i’v got carbon buildup sugesting to me a rich mixture,leadding me to believe that the vcm is giving a faulse reading and pushing the mixture up and leading to long term internal damage. any profesional help would be greatly appriciated!!!!!

Probally has a vacume leak or bad injector somewhere and the computer is richining it up check with someone who is fimiler with scantools and have them help you as this isnt a learn quick item

Auto diagnostic training?
Hi everyone I’m looking for a training program that would teach me the skills i need to do engine diagnostics. I dont have much knowlege about it but my dad tells me its a good field to get into. I cant find anything usefull on the web but What i want to bassicaly do is purchase the diagnostic tools and software to connect them to my laptop and learn how to use it to determine what what is wrong with a car, I will not be repairing it just diagnosing it. Also I’m only interested in equipment for japanese and european cars. So if anyone can help me with ideas on how to get started with this, or references to courses, or even what tools I should get, please inform me that would help me out tremendously.

I work for Ford [which includes Volvo, Mazda, Jaguar, Land rover etc] and getting a job as a diagnostics engineer is superb but very complex. This end of the diagnostics chain is best because you get to design the diagnostics capability of the system BUT as a diagnostics engineer for a garage, you just read codes [VERY EASY!] and say whats wrong, not much to it.
Tools such as WDS/IDS [maybe Ford specific] are worth investigating, which read off diagnostics code and if you know the ECU Supplier, they can provide what the codes mean.

Their are many service tools to help you diagnose your cars and their are also software programs to link to your laptop the best place to check for these programs is to in touch with your local snap-on or matco dealer also check into a company called apex tools they have a phone # you can call and they will work with you and help with your needs. Be careful these programs are very expensive.
