Why does my washer smell?

I have a front loading washer it’s new just five months old. But I have noticed that most of the time when I wash it starts smelling like rotten eggs. Does anyone know why it does this? Is it normal for it to do that?

Leave your door open, after you are done washing. This is a standard practise. What you are dealing with is leftover moisture from the wash, and leftover water in the drain line. That is what makes the smell. To get rid of the immediate smell, follow what others have told you about running a cycle with some bleach without clothes in there.

If your computer electronics stays on because you left the door open, unless there is a buzzer alarm that bothers you, you are not going to hurt the electronics. They won’t “break”, because they are “on”. Your motor, belts, or drum will go years before any of the electronics do.

Why do my clothes stink after washing and drying?

I recently bought a front-load washer and my clothes smell musky and dirty even with detergent(TIDE) and fabric softener sheets in the dryer. I have bleached the bowl several times. Is it because the dryer is older? (Clothes are completely dry).Maybe there’s a drain not draining out dirty water? I paid alot of money for this washer and I’m at my witts end, please help.

Sounds like the MOLD problem everybody has with front load machines. Check your rubber door gasket to see if mold has formed. Not much you can do about it. Google search the problem. A lot of washing machine companies are being sued because of the problem.

If you have some whites that need washing, put them in with some bleach. Let the washer sit overnight before using again so any residual bleach has a chance to evaporate and not ruin other clothing.

I dry the rubber gasket and the door of my machine after my last load for the day, and I prop the door open to let air inside. Any clothes you have that still smell mildewy, you may have to run through a wash again.

Why do my freshly washed towels still smell used?

We bought new towels a few months ago. I have a front load Neptune washer and dryer. I use Tide HE detergent. I rarely use liquid fabric softener because I have read that it affects their absorbency. Why do they still stink after I pull them out of the dryer? Is there anything I can do besides buy new towels?

Stink as if you had never washed them?

Could you possibly be overloading the washing machine and the detergent and water isn’t circulating enough? Do older towels have the same problem? Maybe it’s something with the material of those towels.

What I’d suggest is soaking them in warm water overnight. Don’t overload the washer. Then dry on a medium (not high/cottons) setting.

You might try Tide with Downy in to get a better smell. Because it’s not being dried onto the towel, like a fabric softener sheet, it might not impact it as much. I do use softener sheets and don’t notice an appreciable different in the absorbancy.

Have noticed that some towels don’t smell as good when I dry them on a high heat setting.

Question about Front Load Washers? (needs some tips)?

Hi, recently I have been having problems keeping my laundry clean. When I was at home, we had a top load washing machine, and it was so much easier to put the laundry soap and fabric softener at the top. However now that I have started college again and live on campus, we only have front load washers, and it seems like my laundry never comes out smelling fresh. I use Gain(powder)and Downy yet my clothes never smell clean.

Is there a way I can put the laundry soap inside the washer instead of putting it in the compartments at the top? Will it cause problems with the washers? I just really hate these washing machines!

Oh I forgot to mention that we have hard water here as well.

I also use Borax to help soften the water, but my clothes still smell funny. I am not a smelly person either, but I still can’t get my laundry to smell as fresh as i want it.

I have also noticed that my laundry smells really fresh while wet. But as soon as it dries the fragrance from the downy goes away. Could someone give me some tips. I really don’t know why I cannot get my laundry to smell fresh.

It is absolutely OK to put detergent straight onto clothes. It will mix with the water as it fills. NEVER put chlorine directly on clothes. You may want to try a little hydrogen peroxide on color loads to freshen in wash. Do not mix with bleach. Whites with hot water and bleach.
